Chapter 20. AirPort > Step 4. Connect the AirPort Base Station

Step 4. Connect the AirPort Base Station

Follow the simple directions that came with the AirPort Base Station. Basically, you will plug the AirPort into a power source (like your surge protector), and connect a phone cord from the Base Station to your phone jack. If you use a cable or dsl modem, then you won't use the phone cord—you'll connect an Ethernet cable from the AirPort to the cable or dsl modem.

No cables from the AirPort are connected to your iMac. This means the existing phone cable from your iMac's internal modem (or Ethernet connection to your cable or dsl modem) can stay right where it is in case you need to connect in the standard way through the wires.
