Part I: Today’s Technology > Securing Internet Shopping: American Express Blue

Chapter 33. Securing Internet Shopping: American Express Blue

American Express Blue is a credit card that includes a built-in Smart Chip for Internet security. The built-in computer microchip on the card holds a certificate of authenticity that helps to provide added security when you make online purchases using your PC. Instead of using your actual credit card number to make a purchase, you are given a unique, temporary card number and expiration date to enter that provides added protection from Internet fraud.

Internet purchases can be verified by something you have, such as your card, in addition to something you know. This improves the level of Internet security because would-be thieves would need to actually possess your card plus know your personal identification number (PIN) in order to make a purchase that is secured in this manner.
