In terms of skip protection, the iPod has up to 20 minutes of skip protection provided via a 32MB solid- state memory cache. This means that if you're walking or running, or the device is generally being bumped around, your music will play seamlessly because it's buffered in memory rather than being read in real time from the hard disk.
