Project: Create Your Own Greeting Card

Next time you go on vacation, why not send back an audio greeting card? Gather the family around and brainstorm what you'd like to say, both in text and in an audio greeting, and then get going. Note that you'll need to connect a microphone to your computer to record the audio message.

Double-click the E-motional Greeting Card Creator icon on your desktop to begin the program.

At the opening window, click Next to begin creating your card. The window in Figure 20.4 appears.

Figure 20.4. This is where you find a photo image to include in your card.

If you have access to a scanner, you can scan an image in using the controls on this window.

Click the Browse button and use the Load Image dialog box to locate you're My Pictures folder (it's in the My Documents folder of Windows).

Double-click the Sample Pictures folder to open it, then click the Sunset image, and click Open. The image appears in the Greeting Card Creator preview.

Click Next.

Click Place Text Message on Image.

For the Placement of Text, click the Top of Image setting if it's not already selected.

Enter this text in the Enter Text Message box: “Having a wonderful time…wish you were here!”

Click the Select Font button and, in the dialog box that appears, select Comic Sans in the Font list and 26 point font in the Size list and click OK.

Click the Text Color button and then click the white sample on the palette that appears.

Click Next. The Audio Message window shown in Figure 20.5 appears.

Figure 20.5. Record your own audio message or load a sound file for music or even sound effects.

With Record from Microphone selected, click Record. Read this message (or one you've thought of yourself) into your microphone: “Hi, folks! We're having a great time swimming and sailing. See you next week.”

If you want to listen to your message, click Play to preview it.

Click Next. You can record another greeting that plays when the card is closed. For now, skip that by clicking No Audio and then Next to continue.

Click the Browse button to locate your My Documents folder and click Save to save the card to your hard drive.

Click Create the Card. It takes a few seconds to create the card and then the Preview the Card button becomes available, as shown in Figure 20.6.

Figure 20.6. Take a look at your card before you email it to be sure it's what you wanted.

Click the Preview the Card button to hear your audio and see your text message. When it's done playing, click Close in the upper right-hand corner to close the preview.

Click E-mail the Card Now and a blank email message appears from your default email program (which is Outlook Express if you haven't set up another program).

Enter the address information and any message you like and then click Send.
