Chapter 16. Managing Computer Memory > Check Your Available Memory

Check Your Available Memory

Before you can determine the best way to manage your memory needs, you need to know how your system is using your current memory. First, you can check on how much RAM you have in use when you're running the programs you typically work in. Then, you can check the space on your hard drive and take some steps to clean it up to free up some storage memory.

Checking Out Your RAM

Adding to RAM is easy, but it does mean spending the money to buy memory modules. Before you do that, you should know how much RAM memory you have and how much of it is being used. The best way to do this is to use some of the system information reports in PC Doctor for Windows XP, which comes installed on every Pavilion.
