Exploring the Start Menu

Menus are common elements of any Windows software. A menu holds lists of commands that you can click to do something, such as opening a program, going to a control panel where you can make changes to your computer settings, or launching an Internet connection.

The Windows Start menu is located on the taskbar that runs along the bottom of the Windows desktop. The Start menu is one of the largest menus you'll find, with a main panel and branches that display a menu of all the programs on your computer, and even some additional submenus (see Figure 4.2).
