Chapter 7. Exploring Windows XP Accessories > Project: Designing a Family Crest

Project: Designing a Family Crest

If your family were to have a family crest, as families did in olden days, what would it look like? Use Paint to draw shapes and add colors to design a new family crest. Think of one image that represents each person in your family and include it in a sort of collage. For example, if someone plays music, draw a musical note or, if another person plays basketball, draw a circle with lines on it to indicate that.

✓ To design your crest in Paint, follow these steps:

1.
Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, Paint.

2.
In the Paint program, select File, Open and locate the graphics file you want to work with.

3.
Use the various tools to draw on the document.

4.
Click objects to select them and use the Eraser, Fill with Color, or other tools to modify them.

5.
Click the Text tool and then type text directly onto the image.

6.
Use tools such as the Brush or Airbrush to paint on your image.

7.
When you're done, save the file by selecting File, Save and choosing the best file format for your purposes in the Save dialog box, Save as Type list.
