Chapter 14. Exploring the Internet > Using the Internet Explorer Browser

Using the Internet Explorer Browser

Internet Explorer is a browser program from Microsoft that is included on your HP Pavilion home PC as part of Windows XP. A browser is a program used to navigate around the Internet, taking you to various Internet addresses called Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) or following hyperlinks you click with your mouse to go from one Web document to another.

Browsers also have features that allow you to go quickly to sites you visit often, to review the history of sites you've visited recently, and to help to ensure your online privacy. In this chapter, you'll use Internet Explorer to browse the Internet. If you end up using a different browser, for example, one provided by your ISP, you'll find that most browsers offer features similar to the ones you'll see here.
