Chapter 23. Understanding the InDesign W... > Getting Familiar with the InDesign W...

Getting Familiar with the InDesign Work Area

When you open InDesign for the first time and create a new document, it's helpful to get oriented to the work area. Your blank page is in Fit In Window view, which shows the entire page as well as the pasteboard. The pasteboard is the area you can see in the workspace that is not part of the page itself. The pasteboard can be used to hold items like graphics and page elements you want to “store” off the page as you work with your design.

Scrollbars are on the right and bottom of the page to help you move around your page. Rulers are at the top and left of the page. At the bottom of your document window, you see the current display percentage, a pop-up menu, arrows that enable you to navigate from page to page, and information about the current Version Cue state.
