Connecting to a Database

The term database connection describes the information necessary to connect to a database to retrieve or update information. This information is often very different depending on the type of database you are connecting to, but in general, it specifies the type of database or connection protocol (Access, MS SQL, ODBC, and so on), the location, and the information necessary to log into it.

As you've seen, creating a database connection is as simple as a button click when you import an Access database. Other databases, however, require a bit more effort. To add a database connection, do the following:
