Chapter 16. Creating Forms > What's a Web-based Form?

What's a Web-based Form?

A form is a collection of controls that a site visitor can use to enter or choose information. When complete, a button is clicked to submit these entered values to a page on the server for handling, where the results are stored, used as input to a Web application, or e-mailed to someone.

Forms are supported by practically every browser, and provide a standard way to return information to the Web site in a way that doesn't require client-side scripting or other relatively advanced technology to be in place. For that reason, just about every Web site should have at least one form that can be used to send feedback or requests for information.
