Defining Multimedia

Published text, recorded voices and music, pictures, and moving images are all different forms of media. Multimedia, by contrast, combines different forms of these media into one overall presentation.

For example, professionally recorded CD-ROMs often combine moving images and still shots with music and voice narration to take advantage of both sight and sound to capture the viewer's attention and imagination. Chances are you can probably recall some fancy Web sites where you were treated to such presentations as well. Some Web-based news sites or special information sites, like those focused on space travel, put multimedia possibilities to good use.
