Adding a Banner Ad

These days, banner ads appear everywhere on the Web. You'll find them hocking wares and services on news sites, gaming sites, and even personal sites. If you're considering including banner ads in your site, tread carefully. Such advertising can irritate a loyal audience, particularly on a site where advertising has not been previously offered. The results—in terms of revenue and promotion—may not justify the effort.

If, after careful thought, you do decide to include banner ads on your site, you may be disappointed by FrontPage's capabilities in this department. Although some previous versions of FrontPage included a Banner Ad feature that enabled users to create and manage banner ads, FrontPage 2003 does not. Instead, FrontPage 2003 offers a Page Banner feature. By default, a page banner, when plugged into a page included in your navigation scheme (refer to Chapter 12, “Creating a Navigation Structure”), simply applies the title of a page to a banner to make the page banner.
