Lesson 9. Working with Hyperlinks > Understanding Hyperlinks

Understanding Hyperlinks

An important aspect of creating Web pages is being able to insert hyperlinks onto the pages of your Web site. A hyperlink references another Web page on your site or another Web site on the World Wide Web. Hyperlinks are the main tool for navigating the World Wide Web.

For example, the navigation bars that you place on your Web pages so that visitors can navigate your Web site really consist of a list of ready-made hyperlinks to the pages on your site. (For more about navigation bars, see Lesson 8, "Inserting Special FrontPage Components.") You can also insert hyperlinks into your site that enable you to access other Web sites on the Web or send e-mail to a specific person.
