Troubleshooting

Treating Punctuation As Words

I need to use the word "period" frequently in my FrontPage document, but every time I say "period" I get the punctuation mark instead. What can I do about this?

Nothing—yet. Unlike other speech-recognition software (such as Dragon NaturallySpeaking), there is no way to tell Microsoft Speech to treat a punctuation name as a simple word. The same goes for numerals lower than five, which Speech insists on displaying as words rather than numbers. Obviously, this problem needs a very fast solution, and we hope Microsoft provides it. For now, however, stop speaking and type, or assign specific words to keyboard commands and evoke them as you work through your document.
