Administering the FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions

While IIS users can graphically administer the FrontPage Server Extensions, Apache users are forced to use the command-line. There are many different administrative tasks that you will need to do over time. Luckily, all these different tasks are all performed from the same executable known as owsadm.exe. This file is also available on IIS installations, but is only widely used on Apache installations.

While we cannot cover every function you can perform with the owsadm.exe, we will cover the ones you will most likely need. To find out about all the administrative tasks that can be performed, look for the FrontPage Server Extensions Resource Kit (SERK) at http://officeupdate.microsoft.com/frontpage, of which a short list is provided in Table 38.1.
