Chapter 31. SharePoint Team Services > Design Corner: Setting Your Server Healt...

Design Corner: Setting Your Server Health Check Options and a General Note

One of the more important features of SharePoint Team Services is its ability to check your server's "health." By default, this feature is turned off, but we highly recommend that you turn it on for automatic checking. This way, you'll move well along toward a secure team site with the restrictions, security, and reliability you need.

The Server Health Check performs five crucial tests. First, it synchronizes the databases to ensure that the database for the team site and the file system for the team site contain precisely the same information. Second, it checks the configuration of the user roles to make sure that the roles settings you've chosen are enforced by the server. Similarly, it ascertains that the anonymous authoring settings are properly in place so that only the proper users can add or modify the contents of the site. In addition, it checks to see that all subwebs exist on the site. Finally, the Server Health Check performs a security test to determine if all the needed folders and files are available, and that their permissions cohere with those you established in the user profiles.
