Troubleshooting

Creating Server Non-Functionality

Publishing to the wrong Web server.

The publish web process is, in most cases, problem free. However, if you don't watch one particular feature of the dialog box, you can cause yourself a lot of trouble. That feature is the field labeled Specify the Location to Publish Your Web To. Be careful that you don't select the root web, or any other existing web on your server, unless you really want to put your web there. After you start the publishing process, and even with FrontPage's dialog boxes during that process, it's far too easy either to overwrite your existing work or to render it nonfunctional by replacing important support files. Be sure, quite simply, that you publish your web to a location you know to be the correct site. Do not, for instance, type a subweb location in the box without checking to make sure you don't already have a subweb of that name.
