Chapter 23. JavaScript and Client-Side C... > Simple JavaScript Program: Hello Wor...

Simple JavaScript Program: Hello World!

JavaScript is a simple, object-oriented language that is similar to the Java language and is therefore similar to the C language as well. However, JavaScript is much easier than either language. This chapter examines JavaScript and explains how it can be integrated into a Web page.

Programming a computer with a new language might seem daunting at first to many Web page developers, who might not have a degree in computer science or any experience writing programs. To help you fully understand the language, this chapter examines a series of examples. It covers several of the functions and commands that JavaScript offers and demonstrates them with snippets of sample program code. As with any new Internet technology, this language is changing and evolving rapidly. This chapter attempts to explain the fundamentals of the JavaScript language so that your skills can improve and evolve as quickly as the language evolves in the future.
