Permissions

Permissions are key when multiple users are going to access and edit various areas of a Web site. Chaos would reign if all users had all levels of access and permission to a Web site. Imagine what would happen if anyone viewing the site had permission to change it or if the graphic designer were suddenly placed in charge of which programs the server can and cannot execute. Levels of permission on all projects include no access at all, browsing authority only, authoring authority, and the ability to administer the site. Permissions can be set on the level of the user, group, or computer.

Permissions also can be utilized to give a small audience browsing access to a site that you don't yet want open to the general audience. This is useful when performing alpha or beta tests on your site.
