Testing

Always test your site. Your pages might look fine in Internet Explorer, but how do they look in Netscape Navigator? Thorough testing will ensure that most people see your pages as you intended no matter what type of browser they use. Follow these testing guidelines:

  • Test each page with the default settings of Netscape 4.x (also known as Communicator 4), Netscape 6, and Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x—These are the dominant browsers at the moment. Keep testing when new versions are released, too.

  • Test on a 15-inch monitor set to display at a resolution f 800×600 in 256 colors—To test exhaustively, also check your pages on a Macintosh platform.

  • Test your site on a 28.8Kbps line—Even though most personal and desktop computers have been sold with 56Kbps modems for some time now, many telephone lines both inside and outside North America do not support this speed.

  • Get user feedback during testing.

  • After making even a minor change to your page, test it thoroughly.
