Chapter 4. Developing Text, Lists, and H... > Using the Text Editing Tools

Using the Text Editing Tools

Just as word processors do, FrontPage provides commands for spell checking, finding and replacing words or strings of words, and opening a thesaurus. None of these tools is a substitute for careful proofreading and competent writing, but they help.

Spell Checking Your Work

The basic, and usually the most convenient, method of spell checking is to turn on automatic checking. It is active by default when FrontPage 2002 installs, and misspellings are flagged by a wavy red underline. If you want to turn it off or on, select Tools, Page Options; in the resulting Options dialog box click the Spelling tab. This displays the Spelling sheet, which has two check boxes. The box labeled Check Spelling as You Type, if checked, turns on automatic checking. Hide Spelling Errors in All Documents conceals or reveals the wavy red line, depending on its checked or unchecked state. If you want to keep checking turned on, but you don't want to be distracted by wavy red lines, check both check boxes. Then, when you're finished writing and want to see how many spelling mistakes you made, go back to the Spelling sheet and uncheck the lower box, and then click OK. The wavy lines indicating spelling errors now appear.
