Chapter 27. Collaboration and Office XP > Editing Outside the Creation Applicat...

Editing Outside the Creation Application

It is possible to edit documents in programs other than the original creation application. Assume that a user tries to edit a file (either through the Edit button on Explorer or by double-clicking the document from within FrontPage). By default, Windows opens the file in the original creation application (if the program is installed on the machine). If the original creation application is unavailable, the program will open FrontPage for editing.

Be careful when editing HTML documents in programs other than the original creation application. Because the HTML created by the Office applications has code specific to each of the applications, the possibility exists that the file edit will affect the file integrity.
