Chapter 27. Collaboration and Office XP > Microsoft Office Web Server

Microsoft Office Web Server

With Office XP comes the option for Microsoft Office Web Server (also called SharePoint). The Microsoft Office Web Server is a product that is available in addition to FrontPage extensions and that, unlike FrontPage extensions, can be installed only on a server running Windows 2000. An Office Web Server allows for a number of Web-based features, including discussion boards, document libraries and subscriptions—three tools that can assist greatly in the online collaborative process.

Discussion Boards

One of the most powerful features of the Office Web Server is the option for Web discussions. The collaborative process is much easier through Web discussions. The Office Web Server provides an additional communication vehicle for participants in a collaborative endeavor.
