Using the Folder List

The Folder List is primarily a navigation aid. When you click a folder, the subfolders and files contained within that folder appear in the Contents pane. You move from folder to folder by clicking in the Folder List (the Contents pane has no navigation tools to move up a level or go back), although you can open a subfolder of the currently displayed folder by double-clicking it in the Contents pane.

As a navigation aid, however, the Folder List has one important quirk. While you can use the Contents pane to view subfolders of the currently selected folder, you cannot use it to view subwebs of the currently open web. The web icons in Figure 15.3 (folders with tiny globes in the middle) in the Folder List and Contents pane represent subwebs. If you click one, the Contents pane displays "Files in a subweb cannot be viewed here. Double-click on the Web folder to view its contents."
