Chapter 1. Welcome to FrontPage 2000 > Introducing Microsoft FrontPage

Introducing Microsoft FrontPage

Microsoft FrontPage 2000 is the most recent version of the popular all-in-one Web design toolkit. It's the fourth major release of the product, the third since Microsoft acquired it from Vermeer Technologies in 1995 (for a full history, see Where FrontPage Came From). This is obviously good news: The last thing you want when you shell out hard-earned money for a software package is to discover that the company who publishes it doesn't intend to support or upgrade it. Microsoft's program of upgrades to FrontPage 97, FrontPage 98, and now FrontPage 2000, in fairly rapid succession, clearly demonstrates that they intend to stick by it. So does the fact that Microsoft is including FrontPage 2000 with one version of the Microsoft Office 2000 package. Knowing that the software you work extensively with will be around for the foreseeable future is an extremely important thing.

Note

If you've never used FrontPage before, the rest of this introduction section explains what FrontPage is and what it does. If you've used past versions of FrontPage, head straight for the section below entitled What's New in FrontPage 2000.
