Chapter 16. Publishing a Web > Designers Corner

Designers Corner

You can use an independent FTP client to publish your webs, instead of using FrontPage's Publish Web process. In fact, if you run one of the many, many FTP clients available for Windows 95/98/NT users (see http://www.winfiles.com or http://www.shareware.com to find some), you will notice that FTP is a richer and even faster experience than with FrontPage. And besides, you can use the client to do all your FTP work, not just FrontPage FTPing.

But if your web depends on FrontPage server extensions, use the FrontPage publishing features instead. Often, FrontPage uploads additional files to allow the extensions to do their work, and the FrontPage publishing system is designed to ensure that everything gets uploaded properly. If you have a subweb, however, that you know does not rely on the server extensions, you can certainly adopt a separate FTP client.
