Troubleshooting

Windows NT with IIS 4.0 can be difficult when it comes to working with the FrontPage server extensions. If you have the NT Options Pack installed (Microsoft not only recommends it, they practically assume it), you use the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) to install and upgrade the server extensions. But sometimes you can install the newest extensions and FrontPage still won't work the way you think it will, because you must remember to upgrade them through the MMC after installing. The problem is that the MMC doesn't make it particularly easy to do anything at all, despite Microsoft's proclamations to the contrary.

The point is this: If you're using NT and IIS, be sure to learn the MMC thoroughly. You should anyway if you're running NT Server, and for some of you that's part of your job, but if you're an NT do-it-yourselfer, this is an absolutely essential component to learn.
