Troubleshooting IIS 4 and the FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions

Because of the wide range of technologies used in both IIS and FrontPage it can be difficult to narrow down the cause of certain problems. There are a number of common problems that occur with FrontPage 2000 and IIS 4. Many of these problems we have already discussed as they are integrally tied into how IIS 4 works with Windows NT.

Security Problems

As we've discussed before, IIS and FrontPage 2000 use NTFS permissions to determine who has security rights to a particular file. To even of the most experienced administrators, file permissions and minimum security rights can be scary topics. Attempting to manually adjust permissions should be considered a last resort since even the slightest error could leave your web server vulnerable or non-functional.
