Creating Custom Templates

This is basically a page-editing task, although it may be a long and complicated one, depending on how elaborate your template is. Begin by loading the template that will serve as the basis for your own, or by creating an entirely customized page. Once the template page is completed to your satisfaction, take the following steps:

  1. Use the Page Properties dialog box to give the template page an appropriate title.

  2. The Save As dialog box appears when you choose File, Save As.

  3. In the Save As Type list box, use the arrow button to select the FrontPage Template entry. This specifies a TEM extension.

  4. Choose Save. The Save As Template dialog box appears (see Figure 10.6).

  5. Edit the template's Page Title in the Title box if you prefer and then type a filename into the Name box. You don't need to add an extension; FrontPage adds a TEM extension by default.

  6. Type a description of the template into the Description box. This appears in the New Page dialog box when you choose the template to create a page. The Description is required, so if it isn't there, the OK button is grayed out.

  7. Choose OK.
