Chapter 13. Creating a Web > Requirements for Creating a Web

Requirements for Creating a Web

You can create a FrontPage web directly on a Web server, or you can develop it on your local hard disk and transfer it to a Web server later. Here's the difference:

In order to make a web available for external access, either on the Internet or in a company intranet, you must work with a computer running HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) server software. More simply, it has to be on a Web server. The server software can reside either on a remote computer accessible over the Internet or on your local computer. FrontPage 2000 lets you create webs directly on your server and edit documents across the Internet in order to eliminate the steps of downloading, then editing, then uploading. In fact, this has always been one of FrontPage's most significant features, and the concept of remote editing has made its way into Office 2000 as well.
