Doing More

Reading data from a network database and populating new information into this database are obviously the two strongest Web site developer requirements. There may be times when you want to implement more functionality within your site. This is particularly true as developers begin creating Web sites on the intranet that manage data within databases. In addition to reviewing and adding data, users want to update and delete information within a secure environment. FrontPage 2000 does not provide a large amount of flexibility for more advanced data maintenance, such as deleting information or editing information. This section, however, briefly discusses some solutions and explains more advanced database concepts such as stored procedures and triggers in detail.

In the case of the CompuShop Web site, you need to create a mechanism in which multiple records in several database tables are removed concurrently. The Customer table from the customer profile example contains individual customer information such as name, shipping address, and billing information. One of those fields in that table is a key that uniquely identifies each customer. The customer's phone number was used, because in most cases that should be unique for each individual.
