Gathering Extra Information with Hidden Fields

A hidden field is something the user doesn’t actually see when filling out the form you’ve created. Sometimes, hidden fields are essential to provide information that a script, database, or file needs to process the form information. A hidden field can also serve as a note to you, visible when you receive the data from the file. When you create a hidden field, you can leave information about the name of the form, the place it was published, or the version number of the form.

A hidden field contains two attributes: a Name (a keyword associated with the field), and a Value (the version number, date, or other information contained in the field). To create a hidden field, follow these steps:
