Chapter 28. Providing a Text Search Capability > Using the Web Search Component

Using the Web Search Component

The Web Search component provides a text search capability for an entire Web server, a single Web site, or a folder tree within a Web site. This makes the Web Search component less powerful than the large Internet search engines, but limited searching has advantages as well:

  • If you’ve done a good job of organizing your Web sites and servers, each Web site represents a specific body of knowledge. Searching that realm might very well be a reasonable thing to do.

  • Searching only your Web site limits the opportunities for visitors to wander off and visit other sites.

  • If you want to search an entire group of servers, many other tools are available for that purpose. The Search The Web With MSN feature described later in this chapter is a case in point.
