Publishing Your Web Site

Most Web designers maintain at least two copies of each site they develop: a development copy and a production copy. The development copy is for implementing and testing changes; the production copy is for Web visitors to access.

Unless you keep fastidious records of each file you change on the development site, copying all the changed files to the production server can be a real challenge. It’s very likely you’ll forget to copy some files that you should, and also that you’ll mistakenly copy some files that you shouldn’t.
