Chapter 39. Managing Design Teams > Using Document Check-In and Check-Out

Using Document Check-In and Check-Out

When several people work on the same Web site, there’s always a chance that two people might start working on the same page at the same time. The result is a duel between versions; whoever saves the file last overlays the first person’s updates.

To compound the problem, changing a Web site page can take days or weeks if the change is part of a general site upgrade or requires multiple approvals. Of course, that doesn’t mean that someone’s going to keep the page open in FrontPage all that time, but it does mean that the designer wants the file safe from being updated by other people during that interval.
