Creating and Configuring Data View Web Parts

As interesting as creating Data views might or might not be, they add nothing to your SharePoint site by themselves. The payback comes when you use them to create Data View Web Parts. A Data View Web Part makes the contents of a data source visible in a Web Part Page.

Note

Data View Web Parts use XML style sheets (XSL) to transform the XML from a data source into HTML for display. Some people refer to this process as “using an XSL Transform” or “using XSLT.” The format for an XML style sheet is, of course, XML. To view all this XML, or even modify it, open the Web Part Page in FrontPage, and then switch to Code view.
