Managing Browser Compatibility

Differences in the way browsers interpret HTML are one of the greatest problems Web developers face. HTML that works perfectly well in one browser does nothing, does something different, or displays error messages in another. What’s more, this problem isn’t confined to browsers from different manufacturers; it also occurs between different versions from the same manufacturer.

To make matters worse, browser incompatibility isn’t a black-and-white issue. Just because fonts appear larger in one browser than another doesn’t make one browser better or worse, right or wrong. If one browser can display fancy hyperlink rollover effects and another can’t, does that mean you should never use them?
