Chapter 33. Discussion Web Sites and Sel... > Enabling User Self-Registration

Enabling User Self-Registration

The FrontPage Registration feature lets Web visitors create their own accounts for access to a Web site. An HTML form gathers the new visitor’s name and password, plus any other desirable fields. The Registration component adds the visitor name and password to the Web site’s authentication database and uses the Save Results component to store submitted data for other purposes.

A common use for the Registration component is requiring Web visitors to identify themselves before they’re granted access to a given subweb. This supports any later follow-up you want to perform and, combined with a log analysis tool, supports analysis of usage by individuals.
