Chapter 11. Building Hyperlinks > Setting and Using Bookmarks

Setting and Using Bookmarks

Sometimes, especially when a Web page is long, it’s desirable for hyperlinks to point somewhere other than to the top of a page. Bookmarks provide this handy function. They can jump from one location to another in the same page, or even from one page to any bookmark in another page. To define a bookmark:

1.
Open the target page in FrontPage.

2.
Select the spot you want displayed in the browser’s top left corner. (This is where you’ll insert the bookmark.) You can either set the insertion point at this location or select some text or other content there.

3.
Choose Bookmark from the Insert menu to display the Bookmark dialog box, shown in Figure 11-9.

Figure 11-9. Bookmarks mark specific locations within a Web page.

4.
Type the name of the bookmark in the Bookmark Name box. Use a unique name for each bookmark on a page.

5.
Click OK. If you selected any content in step 2, dotted underlining, as appears in the Drink Holder, Foot Pedal, and Whiteout examples in Figure 11-9, denote the bookmark’s location. Otherwise, a flag icon will indicate the bookmark.
