Q&A

Q1:FrontPage won't let me use View, Tools, Dynamic HTML Effects or any other features like it—the Dynamic Effects toolbar is all grayed out and inactive. What's causing this?
A1: You should use FrontPage's browser compatibility feature to see whether your site's targeted Web browsers support Dynamic HTML. As described in Hour 14, “Attract the Widest Possible Audience,” FrontPage enables developers to target a site to a specific audience by specifying some features they can't use. Versions 3 and earlier of Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer do not support effects created with Dynamic HTML, so these options may be disabled if you are including those versions in your target audience.

To check this and similar options, click Tools, Browser Compatibility to open the Browser Compatibility dialog box; then click the Change button. If the selected browsers do not support Dynamic HTML, FrontPage prevents you from using its special effects in your site.
