Create a Page from a Template

Now that you've learned a bit about the toolbars and the editing window, you're ready to create your own Web page:

Open the Start menu, then find and run FrontPage 2003.

FrontPage 2003 opens, displaying the last thing you were working on when the program was closed. If this is your first time to run it, a blank Web page is created for you.

In case you're wondering, you don't need to be connected to the Internet as you work on a page. Later when you test a page's hyperlinks, you will need to connect to your Internet service provider.

To create a new Web page, choose the menu command File, New. The New pane opens to the right side of the editing window, as shown in Figure 1.2.

Figure 1.2. Choosing the kind of Web page to create.

Click the More Page Templates hyperlink in the New Page section.

The Page Templates dialog box opens, listing all of the templates you can use when creating your new Web page.

To find out more about a template, click it once and read the Description section of the dialog box. Every Web page in FrontPage must be based on a template.

To start with a completely empty page, choose the Normal Page icon; otherwise, choose one of the other icons.

Some of the page templates, such as the feedback form and the photo gallery, are fairly sophisticated. They are discussed in later hours.

Click the OK button. The Page Templates dialog box closes. FrontPage creates your new Web page and opens it in the editing window. You can begin working on it immediately.
