Lesson 4. Publishing a Newsletter > Running a preflight check

Running a preflight check

If the document is going to be printed by a service bureau, rather than just on the home office desktop printer, there are a few more details to attend to. The InDesign document will be opened on a different computer, so all the fonts and linked images used in the document will need to be made available as well.

InDesign offers help in preparing for handing off the document and related files to a service bureau. Use the preflight check to flag aspects of the document that might cause printing problems later on.

1.
With the newsletter document open in InDesign, choose File > Preflight.

InDesign will scan the document and present a report in the Preflight dialog box. The Summary pane highlights possible problems in the document. Further details can be obtained by selecting an area of interest from the list on the left side of the dialog box.

2.
If desired, this report can be saved as text file by clicking Report.

3.
Close the Preflight dialog box by clicking Cancel.
