Lesson 7. Moving from Print to Web > Adding a rollover state to the button

Adding a rollover state to the button

1.
Select the shape layer containing the purple rounded rectangle in the Layers palette. Then, choose Layer Options in the palette menu.

2.
In the Layer Options dialog box, rename the layer to newsletter and click OK.

3.
With the newsletter shape layer still selected in the Layers palette, choose Create Layer-Based Rollover from the Web Content palette menu. (See illustration on next page.)

4.
With the Over state of slice number 8 (the newsletter button slice) selected in the Web Content palette, select the newsletter text layer in the Layers palette. Then, choose Layer > Layer Style > Color Overlay. (If you have worked through Lesson 5, this might sound familiar.)

5.
In the Color Overlay panel of the Layer Style dialog box, click the colored rectangle next to the Color Blend Mode pop-up menu to bring up the Color Picker dialog box. Enter the RGB values R: 191, G: 131, B: 185, and then click OK to close the Color Picker dialog box.

6.
Back in the Layer Style dialog box, set the Opacity of the Color Overlay to 50%, and then click OK to close the dialog box.

7.
In the Web Content palette, click alternately on the Normal and Over states of the newsletter button (slice number 8), and notice how the appearance of the button changes in the document window. In the Layers palette, observe the newsletter text layer has a layer style (the color overlay) applied that in the Over state, but not in the Normal state.

8.
Choose File > Save, and then return to GoLive.
