Placing Illustrator artwork in Photoshop

Choose File > Place, and in the Place dialog box navigate to the Lesson05 folder. To see the Illustrator file, select All Formats from the Files of type (Windows) or All Readable Documents from the Enable (Mac OS) pop-up menu. Select the file basics logo rgb.ai and click Open / Place.

In the Place PDF dialog box, choose Page from the Select pop-up menu, and under Options, select Crop Box from the Crop To pop-up menu. Click OK.

The logo artwork appears inside a bounding box in the center of the document window.

Deselect View > Snap.

In the Options palette, select the top left corner of the image as Reference point, and then enter 5 px for both the X and Y position of the top left corner of the image. (See illustration after step 5.)

In the Options palette, click the Maintain aspect ratio icon to select it, and then type 85% in the Width (or Height) text box. Press Enter / Return to leave the text entry mode for the text box in the Options palette.

Press Enter / Return on the keyboard to commit to placing the image.

The Illustrator artwork will be positioned, scaled, rasterized and placed into its own layer in the Photoshop document.
