“I can’t find the Cropping tool.”

PageMaker’s Cropping tool is cool because it lets you specify which part of an image should be visible. Unfortunately, InDesign doesn’t normally have a Cropping tool. Instead, you have to use two tools: The Selection tool and the Direct Select tool.

After you place an image into a graphic frame in InDesign, you can drag the frame’s handles with the Selection tool to crop the image down. In both PageMaker and InDesign, the cropped areas of the image (the parts outside the frame edge) aren’t really deleted; they’re just hidden by the frame boundaries—like seeing a portion of the image through a window.
