Chapter 43. Printing > Choosing a Printer

Choosing a Printer

The Printer popup menu in InDesign’s Print dialog box displays the printers which you’ve set up using your operating system and it also displays the option of printing to a PostScript File.

Like QuarkXPress and PageMaker before it, InDesign is designed for PostScript printers. While InDesign also supports non-Postscript printers (like low-cost inkjet printers), many of the Print dialog box choices won’t be available. For best results, you may find that exporting a PDF and printing from Acrobat or Acrobat Reader is preferable if you need to print to a non-PostScript printer.
