Chapter 42. Preparing for Print > Preflighting Your Document

Preflighting Your Document

Neither QuarkXPress nor PageMaker offer a comprehensive preflight option, so unless you have experience with a dedicated Preflight software package, this feature may be new for you. Fortunately, it is very straight-forward. You can preflight an InDesign document at any time.

The Preflight Dialog Box

Whenever you want to use this feature, choose Preflight from the File menu (or press Command-Option-Shift-F/Ctrl-Alt-Shift-F). In all but the smallest and simplest documents, you’ll see a progress bar as InDesign analyzes the document and prepares a report which is presented in the Preflight dialog box. In the Summary panel (see Figure 42-1), areas of concern are highlighted with a triangle warning icon.
