Standardizing Attributes

One reason to use the Books feature is to standardize paragraph styles, character styles, swatches, table of contents styles, and trap styles across multiple documents. You can do this by identifying one document as the source document that will be used as the standard for all other documents in the book. By default the source document is the first file you added to the book, but you can change this by clicking to the left of the name of any document in the palette.

Then you can synchronize the entire book by choosing the Synchronize Book command from the flyout menu (see Figure 40-1) or—just like XPress—by clicking the Synchronize icon at the bottom of the Book palette. If you first select two or more documents in the palette, InDesign will only synchronize those files.
