Pasting Text

While placing is usually the preferred way to import text, you can also paste text from another InDesign document, or from some other application. When pasting text from another application, InDesign can retain the character and paragraph formatting attributes and any word processing styling, or it can strip all formatting for you. The choice depends on the Preserve Text Attributes When Pasting option in InDesign’s General Preferences dialog box. If the option is turned on, formatting is preserved; if turned off, formatting is discarded. When copying from one InDesign file to another, formatting is always retained.
